As the probe into the murder of transgender sex worker Shawn Simon Hooper widens, investigators have determined that two firearms were used in the execution of the crime.
The News Room was reliably informed that the development comes after investigators examined the spent shells that were discovered at the crime scene.
The spent shells belong to two firearms, a P80 9mm pistol and an Elite Britain 9mm pistol.
Hooper was killed at approximately 02:00 hrs on July 11, near King Street and South Road in Georgetown. At the time, he was accompanied by another sex worker, who goes by the name Unruly Lilwattie.
Investigators have since arrested three suspects, including the alleged shooter, for questioning in relation to the crime. The suspects remain in Police custody.
During questioning, one of the suspects provided investigators with details of how the shooting unfolded.
The suspect was a passenger in the car that was used to commit the crime. The car was driven by an individual known as “Shaggy”, who is the alleged shooter.
However, upon further investigations, detectives established that the passenger also shot at the sex worker.
The passenger said Shaggy claimed he and one of the sex workers had a problem. Details were not immediately provided and it is unclear whether Hooper was the intended target.
Information previously gathered by the News Room revealed that prior to the shooting, the passenger reportedly told Police that he and Shaggy picked up two female foreign nationals.
The suspects and the women had several drinks together and sexual intercourse at a city hotel after which the women left in a taxi.
Afterwards, the News Room was told that the passenger related that he and Shaggy left in a car and went to look for food.
Subsequently, he claimed that they drove down Croal Street, Georgetown and turned onto King Street and South Road, where the sex workers were standing. Hooper approached the car.
Soon after, Shaggy reportedly reached for a black gun that was under the driver’s seat and discharged several rounds at the sex workers.
The sex workers ran for cover but Hooper’s body was found some 100 feet away in a pool of blood.
The passenger told investigators that after leaving the scene, he and Shaggy proceeded to a location in the city where they purchased food.
After the shooting, the News Room was told that one of the suspects told investigators that he took the firearms in a food box and handed them over to one of his accomplices at a popular bar on South Road, Georgetown.
