Region Two is all set to host its first-ever five-over Tapeball tournament on July 21 at the Hibernia Cricket Ground.
The tournament promises to be an exciting one, featuring 15 teams from across Region Two, namely Renegades Sports Club, Queenstown/Ariel, Affiance, Richmond, Santos, Franchise 11, Golden Fleece, United Crew, Evolution, Hibernia Masters, Jaguar, Hibernia All Stars, Royals, Charity, Young Guns, along with the reigning champions of the One Guyana T10 Blast, Eccles All Stars.
The inclusion of Eccles All Stars aims to elevate the level of competition and excitement.
The tournament will showcase both national and county players, underscoring its high quality and competitive nature.
Adding to the excitement, Regional Sports Officer Wazeeda Bacchus has initiated the inclusion of two female teams, who will compete in an exhibition match to raise awareness of women’s participation in sports.
The first match is scheduled to bowl off at 10:30h, marking the beginning of a day filled with thrilling cricket action. Teams will be competing for over G$400,000 in prize money, further raising the stakes and intensifying the competition.
This tournament is organised by the Regional Sports Committee, headed by Faraz Baksh, and is supported by the National Sports Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Proceeds from the event will go towards a Sports Camp scheduled for August 2024, further emphasising the region’s commitment to promoting sports and physical activity.
