Police in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) on Sunday arrested three persons, including a woman, following the discovery of 559 grammes (or about 1.2 pounds) of cannabis at an abandoned lot at East Canje, Berbice.
The suspects include two men, aged 28 and 27, and a 24-year-old woman.
According to Police Headquarters, the discovery was made during a cordon and search exercise which was led by an Inspector.
Police said a search was conducted at a New Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice premises and nothing illegal was found.
However, two bulky transparent parcels in an abandoned lot near the said premises were later found.
The parcels contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Police said the cannabis was weighted and it amounted to 559 grammes.
The three suspects were arrested and are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
