Mocha man killed during robbery at Vreed-en-Rust
Police are investigating a robbery and murder that took place Tuesday night in Vreed-en-Rust, East Bank Demerara, resulting in the death of 33-year-old Ken Sukhdeo from Mocha.
The incident occurred around 22:10 hrs when Sukhdeo, driving a black Toyota Allion (registration PWW 455), was attacked by two 19-year-olds, identified as Louie Angadle and Jose Harrland. The suspects, who were known to Sukhdeo and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Feranda Perez, allegedly robbed him of his vehicle, three cell phones—including a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra—and a shoulder bag containing a small sum of US and Guyana currency.
Sukhdeo and Perez had visited the ‘Seven Eleven Chinese Supermarket’ in Diamond earlier in the evening, where they encountered Angadle and Harrland. The suspects, who had previously given Sukhdeo US currency to send to their families in Venezuela, entered the back seat of Sukhdeo’s car.
During the drive to Vreed-en-Rust, Angadle reportedly pulled out a knife and began attacking Sukhdeo with multiple chops and stabs to his head and body. Harrland also wielded a knife, inflicting additional stab wounds. Despite Sukhdeo’s efforts to escape, he was critically injured. Perez, who was left in the car, managed to flee and seek help.
The suspects fled the scene in Sukhdeo’s vehicle, which was later crashed at Little Diamond New Housing Scheme. They abandoned the car and escaped with Sukhdeo’s shoulder bag.
Sukhdeo was transported to Diamond Diagnostics Centre but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by Dr. Vanderburg. An examination revealed that he had suffered nineteen stab wounds across his head, abdomen, chest, hands, and back. Perez received medical treatment for wounds to her right leg and breast.
Police investigations led them to 11th Avenue, Diamond, where local residents had detained Harrland. He was handed over to the police with visible injuries. Authorities recovered Sukhdeo’s shoulder bag from Harrland, which contained $145 in US currency, $5,800 in Guyana currency, and three cell phones.
The search for the second suspect, Louie Angadle, is ongoing. Police are urging anyone with information about Angadle’s whereabouts to come forward as the investigation continues.
