A 12-year-old girl, Chitwrattie Rohan, died on Thursday morning following an alleged choking incident involving her cousin. The incident occurred at Rohan’s home in Martyrs’ Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, the children were playing together when a scuffle broke out between Rohan and her cousin, also 12-years-old. During the altercation, Rohan was choked.
Rohan was rushed to the Beterverwagting Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead. Her grandfather, Mohammed Jameer, who was not at home during the incident, described the scene upon his return.
“Really me nah know nothing. Me just drive in, pick she up and carry she at the hospital. She been alive at the said time when me pick she up…she been ah short ah breathe like while carrying she.
“Like them choke mattie. Them two been a fight like and them choke mattie. Them been ah mek joke like. Them nah tek um fah nothing. Them been a play like. Me nah know nothing more,” Jameer explained.
The police have been notified and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
