Three arrested in Berbice for alleged cattle theft
Three men were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the alleged theft of two bulls valued at $240,000 in Corentyne, Berbice. The bulls were reported stolen from Ganisey Parsram, a 63-year-old pensioner from #64 Village, Corentyne.
The suspects, identified as Noel Gray, 26, Shermond Thompson, 44, and Oudwin Binda, 47, are all labourers from the area. The theft was reported by Chavand Parsram, Ganisey’s 37-year-old son, who discovered the bulls missing from a secured pen on August 2.
According to Parsram, he had secured the bulls in a mesh pen at the No. 64 Village pasture on August 1, 2024. Upon returning the following morning, he found the bulls were gone. On Wednesday evening, he received information about a suspected cattle theft in progress and alerted the Springlands Police Station.
Police responded promptly and intercepted a Raum vehicle with registration PPP 2810, driven by Gray and occupied by Thompson and Binda. During the search, officers discovered four quarters of meat in the vehicle, which bore the brand #OG98, matching the stolen bulls.
The suspects were unable to produce the required documentation for transporting the meat, such as a transit permit, veterinary pass, or notice of intention to slaughter. They claimed that the bulls were given to them by two individuals named Jerry and Brooks, and that they were en route to Cromarty Village.
All three men were arrested, cautioned, and taken into custody at the Springlands Police Station. The meat was also seized. The investigation is ongoing, with police efforts focused on locating the individuals known as Jerry and Brooks.
Ok, the POLICE looking for JERRY AND BROOKS ?
Ah mean, how daft could these Police be ?
And, they believed those arrested ?
Does the Police have freezer at Springlands Station to store the seized meat ( that is evidence ) ?
