Press Release from the Guyana Olympic Association

The executive committee of the Guyana Olympic Association, as part of its strategic undertaking on charting a new course, will be embarking on developing a critical Strategic and Operational plan for the period 2024 to 2032.

The committee believes that the development and implementation of a strategic and operational plan is key to identifying and defining the strategic approaches, priorities, policies, systems, partnerships, and structures to be adopted in view of maximizing our resources.

This plan is geared towards instituting a more effective and reliable support framework for athletes, national associations, and federations.

The Plan will set the foundation for improving and optimizing the leadership, strengthening the decision making and administrative capacities of the GOA and its affiliates, provides a basis for reset position after Paris 2024, outlines guides the strategic direction and pathway of the GOA and its affiliates must undertake to improve and maximize performance efficiency and more broadly, the sports ecosystem in Guyana.

Given its critical importance to improving our sporting prospects in the future, the executive committee sought and secured grant support funding from the International Olympic Committee through Olympic Solidarity, to recruit and support the work of a consultant in helping us to develop a Strategic and Operational Plan for the Guyana Olympic Association.

In this regard, the GOA was able to secure the services of Mr. Laurent Torrecillas to assist the GOA with developing this key document.

Mr. Torrecillas is an expert in strategic planning and has done great work with other NOCs and International Sporting organizations in helping them to develop key strategic plans.

The GOA is happy to indicate that we have already commenced working with  Mr. Torrecillas in the development of our plan prior to the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

A key element of evolving the plan is the need for Mr. Torrecillas to meet with and interview key stakeholders which includes media personnel, athletes, heads of all affiliated national governing bodies, government officials among others, in view being able to outline and  to discuss the plan, conduct  a SWOT analysis of national governing bodies in view of getting an insight into their vision plans, system processes operations, structures and approaches.

Editor’s Note: The GOA has scheduled a meeting for August 17 to allow for media operatives to engage with Torrecillas with a view to ensuring their valuable inputs are captured in the plan.
