Miner doused with high wine and set alight by drinking partner
A 44-year-old miner is currently nursing second-degree burns which he sustained after he was doused with alcohol and set alight by his drinking partner on Monday.
Injured is James Thomas also known as ‘Wormie’.
Police said the 53-year-old suspect, who is also a miner, is known to Thomas. He was arrested and is currently in custody.
According to a Police report, Thomas and the suspect were consuming the alcohol “high wine” at Imbaimadai Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, Region 7.
During the process, Police said a dispute erupted when Thomas took possession of the suspect’s bottle. The suspect asked Thomas to return the bottle but Police said he ignored the request.
In a fit of rage, Police said the suspect seized the bottle, doused Thomas with the alcohol and set him ablaze.
This resulted in Thomas sustaining second-degree burns about his body.
Thomas was transported to the Imbaimadai Health post and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
