Three bandits, one armed with a handgun, carted off an undisclosed amount of local currency and other valuables from Johnny P’s Supermarket during a robbery on Monday night. The incident occurred at about 20:00 hrs at the entity’s Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown location, Police Headquarters reported.
Two employees at the supermarket were also robbed. Police said a 45-year-old female supervisor was relieved of one gold chain, while a 51-year-old labourer who resides at the upper flat of the establishment was relieved of one (1) Samsung cellphone valued at $45,000 by three male perpetrators.
The female supervisor told investigators that she was in the process of closing the supermarket when the perpetrators entered via an opened door. The armed perpetrator dealt her a lash to her face with the handgun, causing her to receive a minor laceration, and relieved her of the gold chain she was wearing around her neck while his accomplices relieved the 51-year-old of his cell phone.
They then proceeded to the cash register and retrieved an undisclosed amount of cash after which they escaped.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV camera footage as investigations continue.
