Free resource maps launched to boost mining and forestry sectors

The Ministry of Natural Resources has launched its Mineral Mapping Resource Allocation Map and its Forestry Resource Allocation Map that are expected to significantly expected to boost the work and management of the sector.

The launch was announced by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources Joslyn McKenzie when subject minister Vickram Bharrat held his mid-year press conference at the Guyana Forestry Commission in Kingston, earlier this week.

Both of the maps, done in collaboration with the US Government, are available to the public at no cost.

“What you see there is a combination of three to four years of intensive work and it’s a lot of back end work that is being done to actually get you to that live stage and it is open to everyone,” McKenzie shared.

Head of the Policy Planning Coordination at the ministry Omkarananda Lochan said these resource materials would allow them to share data with other agencies. They are available on the websites of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the Guyana Forestry Commission.

The maps also feature sawmills and lumber yards across the country, so if anyone is looking for a specific one, the map can assist them with an address and contact number, among other information.
