Police Headquarters on Friday confirmed that Kapil Ramsamuj, the Essequibo headteacher who passed away earlier this week, died from poisoning.

Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh conducted the post-mortem examination on the man’s body at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour at Best Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Previously, Police reported that Ramsamuj’s sister told investigators that the man died by suicide. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital for treatment but succumbed subsequently.

Ramsamuj was the headteacher of the Bonasika Primary School.

It is customary by all caring media in this day and age to put at the bottom of any article about suicide or suspected suicide something to the effect of IF YOU’RE STRUGGLING WITH THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE CONTACT… insert organization name and number.
Guyanese media has to stop being callous and uncaring.

I do certainly feel the media must be more professional ! In my view mental illness /depression is not well and was never well managed or understood many places and Guyana is not excluded.
I was deeply saddened to see this individual trying to hold on to a boat while his children were screaming .This was not a red flag indicating that something was wrong but rather the result of his illness which was not treated. He could have be driven by a psycotic process.
The autopsy can only say he ingested poison but the true cause of his demise would never be known ,therefore no one should be judging.
No one knows else can be next.
