Consecutive defeats for Guyana at CFU U-14 Challenge Series
Barbados captain Jamarco Johnson scored a hat-trick to star in his team’s 6-2 win over Guyana when the sides met in Tier II Group A action of the 2024 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Boys’ U-14 Challenge Series.
The teams were playing at Larry Gomes Stadium on Saturday morning. The win was Barbados’ second in as many matches and Guyana’s second defeat after two outings.
Guyana conceded two early penalties owing to some major defensive errors eight minutes into the game.
Trey Barker stepped up twice confidently, in minutes four and seven, and secured both penalties for Barbados.
Adam King, in minute nine, displayed excellent stamina and strength as he pushed past the Guyanese defensive line and struck a well-composed shot between the legs of goalkeeper Kerwaine Chance and into the net.
Guyana became more composed later on in the match and responded with two goals in the 15’ and 30+2’. It was Nyron Barrow and Jadan Christian who narrowed the score-line for the young Jaguars.
Barbados returned from the break more forcefully than they were in the first half. Johnson added his name to the scoresheet in the 37th, 56th, and 70+2 minutes to stomp his dominance on the match.
Guyana played with heart although unsuccessful, losing their second encounter after being defeated by Antigua and Barbuda on the opening day.
Barbados, meanwhile, had match day one success with the same 6-2 score-line over St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Guyana face the Vincentians on August 19 before concluding their group stage section against the Cayman Islands in their final group fixture on the 23rd at 11:00am.
The respective group winners will advance to the elimination round.
