ENet Senior CASA: Khalil, Arjoon and Wiltshire through to quarter-finals
Ashely Khalil, Alex Arjoon and Shomari Wiltshire are among six Guyanese vying for a semi-final spot at the ongoing ENet Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships in Guyana.
Those quarter-final matches will be held today (August 19) at the Georgetown Club Courts from 10:15h.
Khalil, who won the title in 2022, will face former Caribbean Under-19 champion Sumairra Suleman at 13:30h, while Mary Fung-A-Fat will face Eboni Atherly of Barbados at 12:30h.
At the same time, defending champion Barbadian Margot Prow will face Emma Turnbull of the Cayman Islands while Guyana’s Ashely DeGroot-Khalil battles Barbadian Amanda Haywood from 11:45h.
In the men’s division, Arjoon matches prowess with Shawn Simpson from 11:00h, but earlier, Guyana’s Daniel Ince has a tough battle against reigning champion Barbadian Khamal Cumberbatch from 10:15h.
Shomari Wiltshire also has a difficult task against number-two seed Cameron Stafford of the Cayman Islands from 11:45h.
On Sunday, Ince defeated teammate Jason-Ray Khalil 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 5-11, 11-6, while Arjoon topped Alex Stewart 11-5, 11-5, 11-7, and Wiltshire overcame Jamaican Tahjia Lumley 11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-3.
Meanwhile, DeGroot-Khalil won her match against teammate Kirsten Gomes 3-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4, and Fung-A-Fat topped Gabby Fraser 11-1, 11-5, 11-6.
Larissa Wiltshire lost 11-6, 5-11, 7-11, 9-11 to Suleman, while Larissa’s sister, Akeila, lost to Khalil 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.
