[Waterkant] – 26-year-old Dornell W. of Guyanese descent was arrested last weekend in Suriname by a mixed police unit.

He had been wanted by the French authorities for some time for suspected involvement in several murders in French Guiana.

The arrest took place after information was received from the National Security Directorate that he was offering an illegal handgun for sale and was looking for a buyer.

Dornell was arrested at his home address in a side street of the Kwattaweg by a unit consisting of members of the Regional Assistance Team Paramaribo, DOKPS, and the Shock Group Region East.

During an investigation at the location of the arrest, a Glock 19 handgun with cartridge holder and 60 live cartridges of the 9mm caliber were found and seized.

The investigation also resulted in the seizure of approximately 4.5 kg of marijuana, weighers and packaging material.

The Surinamese police are investigating whether Dornell committed other criminal acts in Suriname and whether he can be extradited to the French authorities. The investigation into this case is continuing.
