Aaron Dookaran, a 20-year-old mason, died on Sunday night after he was struck down on the #2 Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
It was reported that the incident occurred around 23:00 hrs.
At the time of the incident, motor car (#PAG 8265), driven by Gansham Munshi, was proceeding along the public road. A second vehicle, PZZ 4450, was parked by 20-year-old Everest Japal’s residence nearby.
According to initial reports, Dookaran, a mason and resident of the area, ran across the road directly into the path of Munshi’s car. The force of the collision flung Dookaran onto the rear of the parked vehicle on the opposite side of the road.
Bystanders quickly rushed to assist, transporting the injured pedestrian to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. Despite their efforts, Dookaran was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
