‘Don’t fall prey’ – Jagdeo warns against online scams

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo issued a stern caution to Guyanese on Thursday about a series of online scams that are using the likenesses of prominent political figures to deceive the public.

Speaking at a press conference, Jagdeo urged citizens to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.

Jagdeo described the scams as “phishing” operations originating from abroad. These schemes typically involve deceptive links that, when clicked, direct users to fraudulent websites designed to collect personal information.

“It is a scam thing going about,” Jagdeo warned. “Please don’t fall prey. They are Ponzi schemes designed to hook you in.”

The Vice President emphasized that the scammers are encouraging people to invest money, promising high returns.

He stressed that if individuals choose to invest and lose their money, they should not blame the government.

“If you are stupid and you put your money and they go with your money don’t blame the government.”

Jagdeo also mentioned that his office has been receiving numerous calls from concerned citizens who have encountered these scams.

He reiterated the importance of remaining alert and skeptical of any unsolicited investment opportunities online.
