Bevon Stephon Griffith, also known as “Spooney,” was shot and injured on Friday afternoon while attempting to escape from the Camp Street prison in Georgetown, where he is currently incarcerated.
Griffith, a resident of Sophia, is now receiving medical treatment under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital for a single gunshot wound.
According to a statement from the Guyana Prison Service, Griffith managed to escape from his cell and attempted to scale the prison fence during a lockdown. Prison officers responded promptly and shot him in order to prevent his escape.
The Prison Service reported that Acting Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot praised the officers for their vigilance, which thwarted Griffith’s escape attempt. Elliot also warned prisoners to refrain from such actions, emphasizing that they would face “stern” consequences.
Griffith is on remand for the murder of Trion Park, which occurred on November 18, 2023, at Old Road, Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
