Gas Station robbery gang remanded to prison
Three men were on Monday remanded to prison after they were charged with armed robbery.
Joel Joshua Williams, 21, Akeem Marques, 27 and 19-year-old Tyron Peters, all from Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Police said the men allegedly committed a series of armed robberies at three gas stations: Guyoil station on the Railway Embankment road, the Chico Ramas gas station at Coldigen, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Rubis gas station at Success, ECD.
The first two gas stations were robbed on August 20, while the Rubis gas station was robbed on August 23.
They were arrested on August 23, the same day they reportedly robbed a pump attendant at a Rubis gas station.
They pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison until September 27.
Meanwhile, Williams was also charged with two separate counts of armed robbery committed on Dale Jordan and Melissa Wilkinson.
This incident occurred on August 20 at a Guyoil Gas Station located at Mon Repos Railway Embankment, ECD.
He also pleaded not guilty to this crime and was remanded.
Williams was further charged with another armed robbery crime committed on Kenard Mahadeo. This robbery, Police said, occurred on August 20 at the Chico Ramas Gas Station, Coldingen, ECD. Williams is accused of robbing the victim of $9,000.
For this crime, Williams appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce, where he pleaded not guilty and was granted $100,000 bail. This matter was adjourned to September 30, 2024.
Police Headquarters said the suspects used a grey Toyota Axio motorcar to commit the robberies. They were armed with pistols and a cutlass.
During their spree, they robbed pump attendants and a security guard. They relieved the victims at the three locations of cash, cell phones and jewelry, totalling $340,000.
