Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine issued Noise Pollution warnings to 45 entertainment venues, including bars, shops, and supermarkets in Region Three on Tuesday.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that these written warnings are in accordance with the laws governing noise nuisance.

“The proprietors assured the Police Commander and his team that they would adhere to the warning given,” the statement noted.

As part of its ongoing efforts to build partnerships with broader stakeholders, the Guyana Police Force is focusing on ensuring compliance with Noise Pollution laws. Commander Siwnarine informed the News Room that Tuesday marked the beginning of a countrywide exercise.

“It is a regular exercise that all the divisions are required to partake in. So far we have warned 45, but we will continue throughout the week to issue warnings to all establishments, including the Chinese supermarkets, especially those selling alcohol and playing loud music,” Commander Siwnarine stated.

He elaborated that these warnings are typically issued based on complaints, but “in this case, this is the first of its kind where we are going about and warning each and every establishment in all the regions.”

He added, “Once they violate [the warning] after that, then individually we will take action in the form of prosecution.”
