New Amsterdam man charged with assault of peace officer, fined for other offences

A New Amsterdam, Berbice man was on Tuesday slapped with several charges including the assault of a Peace Officer and being an unlicensed driver.

Shamar Holligan was arrested on Saturday and made his appearance at the Albion Magistrate’s Court before Michelle Matthias, where he pleaded guilty to all the offenses.

He was fined as follows:

(1) Obscured I.D. mark (front) – $100,000

(2) Assault Peace Officer – $20,000

(3) Fail to confirm to sign — $5,000

(4) Restriction on the use of hand-held mobile devices – $5,000

(5) Unlicensed motor vehicle – $5,000

(6) Driving motor cycle without wearing a safety helmet – $5,000

(7) Driving uncertified motor vehicle – $5,000

(8) Uninsured motor vehicle – 5,000

(9) Unlicensed driver – $5,000

He paid a total fine of $155,000.

    Does not say he has to register his vehicle, with insurance, wear helmet etc.
    The magistrate screwed up this one… should have ordered daily fines until the registration, insurance is filed.
