A tragic accident claimed the life of a 76-year-old pedestrian, Eton Levans, on Thursday evening around 19:30 hrs. The collision occurred on the public road in Vergenoegen, involving a motorcar and the elderly pedestrian.
According to police reports, the incident took place when motorcar #PPP 3346, driven by a 27-year-old resident of Zeelugt North, East Bank Essequibo, was traveling eastward at a high speed along the northern side of the public road. The vehicle struck Levans, who was crossing from south to north.
The impact caused Levans to fall onto the road, and he sustained severe injuries. The driver of the car immediately transported him to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Levans was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
The body of Eton Levans has been transferred to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it will remain pending a post-mortem examination. The police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
