Residents of Region Three rejoiced on Thursday as the ribbon was cut on the highly anticipated Schoonord to Crane four-lane highway. This state-of-the-art roadway is set to transform the region’s transportation landscape.

The new highway is more than just a road; it’s a gateway to economic revitalization. By enhancing connectivity, it opens up extensive areas for both residential and commercial development, promising to stimulate the local economy and boost tourism potential.

This development is just the beginning. The Schoonord to Crane highway is the first phase of a grander vision to link Crane to Parika, and then Parika to Del Conte. Featuring a 4.1-kilometer dual-carriageway, an emergency lane, medians, and two roundabouts.

President Dr Irfaan Ali, who presided over the commissioning ceremony, highlighted the road’s significance in the government’s ambitious plan to establish Guyana as a prominent transportation and logistics hub.

“The value creation that you see in this region did not happen by accident. It happened by a carefully articulated vision that outlined a clear strategy as to what the development trajectory will be. What this government has demonstrated is a commitment to hard work,” he remarked.

Dr. Ali assured that Region Three is on the brink of significant growth, not just in infrastructure, but also in job creation. He emphasized the stark difference between his administration’s investments and those of the previous government.

“In the last four years alone, in this region, we have spent $28 billion to improve community roads. And every time we build a road in your village…your property values go up. Your net value goes up,” he explained. In housing alone, the current administration’s expenditure has surged by 1,321 percent compared to the past, with nearly $65 billion allocated to the region over the last four years.

Addressing critics, President Ali firmly defended his administration’s achievements.

“The revolution of the future is here. Call out the instigators and let them know we are not going back, we are staying on the right track, right into the future with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Government,” he declared.
