Citizens Bank opens new $1.8B Georgetown branch
Citizens Bank, which started out as a service centre at Thirst Park on July 20, 2000 has now opened its latest branch to the tune of $1.8B at Aubrey Barker Road in Georgetown.
The 27 employees at the new facility, which is essentially taking over the operations of the original Thirst Park branch, are promising to continue a “seamless and consistent” delivery of services, Managing Director Ethan Chester said on Friday when the plaque was unveiled by President Irfaan Ali and Bank of Guyana Governor Dr Gobin Ganga.
The operations of the new state-of-the-art bank, with three floors representing a total of 15,100 square feet, will come into full swing from September 2.
Chester pointed out that the ‘Mandela’ location is easily accessible from the East and West Coast, as well as the East Bank Demerara.
The ground floor will house a customer services department, telling facilities, a drive-through ATM and a social zone to help customers learn how to use the bank’s digital features. On-site parking is also available at the rear of the building.
At the commissioning ceremony, President Ali noted how such expansion gives proof of the country’s banking and financial systems being one of the soundest in the region.
He recalled that in 1992 when the People’s Progressive Party assumed office, there was a modest number of financial institutions and commercial banks with branches mainly concentrated in Georgetown.
After several financial sector reforms, though, he said the government created the conditions for the growth and expansion in the sector.
