While Leader of the Alliance for Change Nigel Hughes has been “busy doing a survey on pit latrines” in the hinterland, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo emphasized that the government is committed to a broader mission of improving education.
“Look at what we’re doing in bulk,” Jagdeo said during his weekly press conference at Freedom House on Robb Street, Georgetown.
“Eventually, everyone would have flush toilets in the schools; in the hinterland too, and we will be able to do it for everyone,” he assured.
In a social media post, Hughes highlighted that students at Phillipai Primary School are still using outside latrines despite the country’s rapid economic growth.
“His focus is on pit latrines; he didn’t discover the new school at Kwebana or the one at Hosororo costing $2B, which is more than the entire capital budget for four regions for all the sectors in a single year by APNU. Didn’t discover that. He discovered a pit latrine in a school,” Jagdeo said.
“The shine is coming off Nigel Hughes because people are seeing him for who he is. He has been the lawyer of choice for the drug dealers. That has been historically known,” Jagdeo added.
