President Irfaan Ali on Saturday announced a National Funeral of Honour to be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in tribute to the life and legacy of Sir Shridath Surendranath Ramphal, OE, OCC, GCMG, AM.

Sir Shridath, a revered son of Guyana and former Commonwealth Secretary-General, is widely recognized as a towering figure in global diplomacy. He will be celebrated for his lifelong service to Guyana, the Caribbean, the Commonwealth, and the international community.

The ceremony will take place at the Promenade Gardens in Georgetown, beginning at 3:00 PM. Following the service, Sir Shridath will be interred at The Place of the Seven Ponds in the Botanical Gardens.

The National Funeral will be marked by full ceremonial tributes to honor Sir Shridath’s monumental contributions, including his efforts in preserving Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and his impact on global affairs.

All Guyanese are invited to join in paying their final respects to a man whose extraordinary vision and tireless dedication have left an enduring legacy both at home and abroad.
