A tragic accident resulted in the death of Joseph Hollingsworth, a 49-year-old machine operator from Section B, Pattenson, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. The incident occurred Saturday morning at approximately 9:30 hrs at Coglan Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.

According to preliminary reports, Hollingsworth was engaged by Travis Pierpont, a businessman from Onderneeming Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, to transport an excavator using a truck registered under Pierpont’s name (GAE 4266).

While loading the excavator onto the truck, Hollingsworth realized that the vehicle could not bear the weight of the equipment.

As Hollingsworth attempted to offload the excavator, the machinery fell off the truck and into a nearby drain, pinning him underneath.

Despite the efforts of public-spirited citizens who quickly extricated him from the drain, Hollingsworth was pronounced dead after being transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

The body has been moved to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and any potential negligence involved.
