An unidentified female of mixed ancestry died Friday morning after being struck by a lorry on Lusignan Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara.

The fatal accident occurred around 7:45 hrs in the vicinity of the Lusignan Prison Road.

The accident involved motor lorry GAE 3066, driven by 29-year-old Brian Aron Lee from Burma, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Reports indicate that Lee was driving westbound when a bystander shouted to alert him that a pedal cyclist was trapped under the lorry.

Lee immediately pulled over, exited the vehicle, and discovered the woman lying motionless on the road.

Emergency Medical Technicians who arrived on the scene pronounced the woman dead.

Her body has been taken to Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test administered to Lee showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.00%. He remains in custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the accident.

  1. I have looked at this accident on a social media platform and it begs the questions. How the driver of the truck did not see this cyclist? If he did not see the woman ! What prevented him? Was it the height of the truck Did he applied the old rule? Look right ,look left and look right again.
Be what it may ,this is very, very sad and dangerous for road users because from my vantage point ,looking at the recording if this driver was keen he should have seen this object approaching .
In my view this questions the credibility of the driver’s licence however, this does not meant to imply that other accidents were caused by questionable licences.
