Candace Adonis, the 29-year-old teacher who is wanted by the Police for abducting a baby ten years ago, disappeared after successfully securing bail on conditions that she has not complied with.

As such, the Guyana Police Force issued a wanted bulletin, as they try to locate her once again.

The News Room was informed that the wanted bulletin was issued based on a request made by the State Counsel from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Chambers in the case.

Adonis is wanted for child stealing.

The unsettling events began on January 13, 2014, when Adonis, 19 at the time, allegedly took a four-month-old baby named Miracle Angel Prince from a daycare in Buxton, East Coast Demerara.

Adonis was charged and appeared before Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where she faced accusations of attempting to permanently deprive the baby’s mother, Samantha Price, of her child.

During her initial court appearance, Magistrate Zamilla Ali- Seepaul remanded Adonis to prison.  The charge against her was deemed serious and indictable, so Adonis was not required to enter a plea at that stage.

The News Room was informed that Adonis subsequently managed to secured bail on the condition that she report to the Police. However, she never reported to the Police nor showed up again as the case continued in the court.

The prosecution, led by Sergeant Ayesha Gibbons, said then Adonis had visited the daycare pretending to be the child’s aunt. Under the guise of familiarity, she managed to leave with Miracle Prince.

Adonis allegedly transported the baby to a house in Pouderoyen, on the West Bank of Demerara, where she handed over the child to a married couple, Carlton and Shameena Jeremiah.

She purportedly claimed the baby as her own and asked the couple to care for “her baby” until her return. The situation took a dramatic turn when Police intervened. Following their investigation, they managed to locate the baby and reunite her with her relieved mother.

Despite the resolution of the immediate crisis, the case against Adonis continued to unfold. Now, ten years later, the search for Adonis has intensified as authorities renew their efforts to locate her and bring her to justice.
