In a tragic incident at the G2 Minerals Guyana Inc. compound in Oku Backdam, Cuyuni-Mazaruni, 30-year-old mammologist Meshach Pierre was found dead on Thursday.

His body was discovered in a shared accommodation just before the afternoon work shift was set to begin.

Police said Pierre had been conducting a mammal survey at the site since September 14, residing there with his assistant, Philbert Denhart, and eleven other workers.

On the day of his death, Pierre was seen approaching Denhart and two colleagues while they were sitting under a shaded area, instructing Denhart not to return to their room due to a scheduled meeting.

As the clock struck 14:55 hrs, Denhart realised it was time to start work and hurried to their shared room.

Upon entering, he was met with a shocking sight: Pierre was crouched on the floor, unresponsive. Denhart immediately called for the on-site medic, who rushed to the scene but sadly confirmed that Pierre was already dead.

The medic subsequently notified the police, who arrived to investigate the scene.

Pierre’s body was transported to Bartica Regional Hospital for further examination.

In the wake of this incident, Denhart has been taken into custody to assist with ongoing inquiries as authorities work to uncover the details surrounding this tragic event.

In an update, police released the autopsy results:

At approximately 11:15 hrs today, a post-mortem examination with dissection was performed on the body of Meshach Pierre, a 30-year-old Mammologist from Lot 60 Atlantic Ville, Georgetown. Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh conducted the examination.

Meshach Pierre’s body was identified by his father, Mark Pierre, a 63-Veterinarian. In conclusion, Dr Singh gave the cause of death as ‘???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????’.

Meanwhile, Police have since found a ‘suicide note’ in Meshach Pierre’s phone (addressed to his family and outlining reasons why he wanted to take his life). Investigations continue.
