Fifteen ranks from the Guyana Police Force, along with 10 officers and ranks from the Guyana Defence Force, are benefitting from an Introduction to Diaspora Studies and Migration Studies being conducted by the University of Guyana (UG).
The studies are being held at the Police Officers’ Training Centre, Camp Road, under the expert guidance of Dr Coreen Jacobs, Director of the International Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies, and other highly qualified facilitators.
On completion of the Introduction to Migration Studies, the officers and ranks will be accredited since each course has two credits attached. The participants will be able to have an understanding of the foundational theories and concepts of migration studies; an understanding of the impact of migration, current trends in migration in Guyana and the Caribbean; an understanding of the concept of ‘Diaspora’ and the different typologies and the importance of diaspora engagement and its role in Guyana’s development.
