The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken on Monday reiterated his country’s support for Guyana’s territorial integrity.
“We also stand strongly for the territorial integrity in Guyana, and we’ll continue to stand with you on that and on so many other things,” Blinken said in brief remarks before meeting Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
In Guyana’s border controversy with Venezuela, the US has been one of the countries that continuously expressed support for the English-speaking country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The US Secretary of State, based on a release from the US Department of State, also spoke more broadly about existing bilateral ties.
Blinken also hailed Guyana’s work within the 15-member regional bloc, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
“Guyana’s leadership in CARICOM has been critical.
“And together, I hope we’ll continue to support the Multinational Security Support mission for Haiti, to help our friends there deal with the gangs, deal with the violence, and get on a strong democratic track,” he reportedly said.
Meanwhile, President Ali thanked the US for its continued support of his country’s territorial integrity and noted that Guyana is keen on expanding ties with the North American nation.
“… on a bilateral basis a strong partnership continues to be built between Guyana and the United States – expanded trade, great collaboration and cooperation in terms of security. And we are committed to the interests of all of us here in the region,” Dr. Ali said.
The release also noted that both leaders zeroed in on the Haitian crisis, and noted that more collaborative efforts are needed.
