Dionson Charlie, a 32-year-old miner from Jawalla Village, has been reported missing following a suspected boat mishap in the Mazaruni River on Monday last.
According to reports, Charlie departed from ‘Bush Cow’ Backdam at approximately 11:00 hrs that day, en route to Kako Village for business. On his return journey, it is believed he collided with a floating object, resulting in him falling into the river.
Witness Learvia Henry, a resident of Abbou Village, reported hearing a loud crashing sound from the river and raised the alarm. Neighbours quickly responded and discovered a wooden boat floating unattended, but Charlie was nowhere to be found.
On Tuesday, Inspector Hunte, alongside fellow officers and community members, organised a search party. Despite their extensive efforts, they were unable to locate the missing miner.
During the search, Charlie’s small boat was discovered at ‘Bush Cow’ Landing, with what appeared to be blood stains on the seats and sides. The boat has since been taken into police custody as part of ongoing investigations.
Search operations for Charlie continue, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
