A concerning swarm of bees at the New Amsterdam Secondary School Multilateral in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) has disrupted learning and caused many to become fearful for their safety.
Over the past nine days, the school has been invaded by aggressive swarms on three separate occasions, disrupting learning at the school.
A teacher complained of overgrown vegetation surrounding the school’s compound and playground; it is believed that this is providing an ideal breeding ground for the bees.
With parents, teachers and students on alert, it is hoped that the relevant authorities will intervene at soonest.
One school representative stated, “We need urgent help in getting the vegetation cleared before this situation escalates further. The threat of a fatal bee attack is becoming very real.”
The News Room understands that some classes were suspended so that students could be safely evacuated.
