One Guyana Three-Stage Cycling aims to promote ‘unity through sport’

The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, is hosting the One Guyana Three-Stage Cycling Race on October 12-13.

This national cycling event aims to promote unity, sportsmanship, and excellence in Guyana.

The race, endorsed by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, is designed to challenge cyclists through diverse terrains, testing their endurance, speed, and strategic thinking.

Cyclists will compete in various categories, including elite and junior levels, with substantial cash prizes: five hundred thousand Guyanese dollars (500k) for the elite category and two hundred fifty thousand Guyanese dollars (250k) for juniors.It expected to showcase the breathtaking beauty of Guyana’s landscape and attract cyclists and spectators from across the country.

The event has garnered significant support from the Government of Guyana, as well as local businesses such as Star Party Rental, ENet, and VNet Communications.

According to the GCF, the race will pass through several communities, allowing fans to cheer on their favorite cyclists and the event is not only a competition but also a celebration of unity, resilience, and the spirit of togetherness in Guyana.

Race Details:

Stage 1: Road Race starting at 0900 hrs Oct 12, 2024

Distance: 140 km

Location: Region 6, East Berbice-Corentyne. New Amsterdam State House to No# 63 Village and return New Amsterdam State House.

 

Stage 2: Road Race starting at 0730 hrs Oct 13, 2024

Distance: 80 km

Location: Region 3, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara. Starting at the roundabout on the new Schoonord to Crane highway, to Parika Market and return to the roundabout to complete two (2) loops of the Vreed – en -Hoop/ Schoonord Highway.

 

Stage 3: Criterium starting at 1530 hrs Oct 13, 2024

Distance: 60 km (laps)

Location: Region 4, Demerara-Mahaica. Main Street Avenue, Georgetown. Starting from the Middle Street point on Main Street, around the Cenotaph, north on Main Street, toward Lamaha Street back onto Main Street.
