BREAKING: First-ever ‘Guyana Digital School’ coming; AI teaching part of plans

The first-ever ‘Guyana Digital School’ will soon be established by the government as part of national plans to create a fully functional digital economy, President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced during a special address to Parliament on Thursday.

“The digital school will be resourced like any brick and mortar facility, with the added benefit of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support learning,” President Ali said.

This school will cover nursery education all the way to Grade 12. Tutors will be part of the venture to support teaching Guyana’s curriculum.

Dr. Ali, however, noted that there will also be a focus on nursing, accounting, entrepreneurship and remedial education in the evenings. Various extracurricular activities will also be done via the online platform.

And the President highlighted, “In fulfilling our promise of ensuring that our propensity redounds to the prosperity of the region, this Guyana Digital School will also be available for CARICOM citizens,” he said.

The President first hinted at this digital school when he gave his Presidential address at this year’s Independence Anniversary observance in Linden, Region 10.

On Thursday, he said this new school is just a part of plans to transform public services through technology. The President emphasised that the government hopes to vastly transform service delivery through this ongoing digital transformation.

“We want to lead efforts in the delivery of effective, secure government services across every sector and to mitigate the risks of being left behind,” he said.
