The Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce/Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) proudly participated in the 2024 Adventure Travel World Summit, held from October 7 to 10 in Panama City. This premier event brought together 800 leaders and innovators from the global adventure travel industry, providing a platform for sharing insights and fostering connections.

Guyana made quite a splash at the summit with a strong representation that included Tony and Claire Thorne from Wilderness Explorers and Anders Andersen from Wild Tales, attending the event for the first time. Jenna Farber and Jane Behrend from Emerging Destinations were also present, along with Judy Karwacki, further emphasizing the country’s commitment to adventure tourism and sustainable practices.

As one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, Guyana is poised to establish itself as a leader in sustainable tourism. Known for its vast rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and rich cultural heritage, Guyana offered unique travel experiences that highlighted its natural beauty and biodiversity.

With the fastest growing GDP in the world, the country is strategically positioned to attract more visitors while emphasizing responsible and eco-friendly travel practices.

“Our participation in the Adventure Travel World Summit underscores our commitment to sustainable tourism and showcases our remarkable offerings to the world. We were excited to connect with industry leaders who share our vision for a responsible and innovative approach to travel.”

The summit featured keynote presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, focusing on the future of adventure travel and the essential role of sustainability in attracting modern travelers.

Guyana’s presence at this event was significant, as it sought to position itself as a premier destination in South America and a model for sustainable tourism globally.

In addition to showcasing its rich natural resources and adventure activities, Guyana left a lasting impression with the El Dorado rum served at the event, which proved to be a major hit with attendees.
