New housing development for Mabaruma; to cater for 90 lots- Presi. Ali

Some 17 acres of land in the township of Mabaruma in Region One (Barima-Waini) has been identified for housing development, catering for the allocation of approximately 90 house lots during the initial stage.

“We have the preliminary block plan and from that preliminary block plan the Ministry of Housing would have already completed the design layout.

“We are hoping to get as much as 85 to 90 house lots from this development…this 17 acres,” President Dr Irfaan Ali revealed on Monday during a visit to the region.

The goal is to ensure that every citizen has access to affordable housing. During the development phase, President Ali said the layout will be done to ensure that the greenery is kept.

“One of the things we are going to do in this development is that we are going to try to keep all the big trees.

“You have big mango trees, fruit trees and other big trees…There is going to be a special effort in keeping all the trees because that is an important part of the whole econ-system that we want to build here,” Dr Ali said.

Citizens will also be given the option of getting assistance from the government to build, is needed.

“In six months we will be back here so that we can demonstrate to you how development takes place,” President Ali noted.
