Aarti Hooblal was called to the local Bar, marking the beginning of her legal career as an Attorney-at-Law.

Standing before the court, she expressed her heartfelt thanks to the judiciary, her mentors, and her family for their unwavering support throughout her journey.

In her address, Hooblal, who hails from a humble background, recounted the trials and triumphs of her academic and personal journey.

“It is a great privilege to have been presented by Dr. Kim-Kyte Thomas, head of the law department at the University of Guyana, a pillar in the legal profession and an inspiration to me,” she said.

Dr. Kim-Kyte Thomas, a well-known figure in Guyana’s legal community, endorsed Hooblal’s application to be called to the Bar. Her praise for Hooblal’s dedication and perseverance set the tone for the ceremony.

Hooblal, who became the first Attorney-at-Law in her family, shared the joy of her accomplishment with her parents, Nirmala and Bhramdeo Hooblal, as well as her siblings.

She credited her grandmother, Ms. Rampattie, a retired teacher, for laying the foundation of her academic success and for shaping her values.

“I am indebted to my parents for their sacrifices that enabled me to pursue this path,” she said.

Throughout her speech, Hooblal acknowledged the role that her law firm, Kyte Small and Barker, and its principal, Ms. Kim Kyte, played in honing her skills.

“The guidance and mentorship I received at Kyte Small and Barker were invaluable,” she said, describing her experience there as critical to her success during her studies.

In her address, Hooblal also paid tribute to her fiancé, Aaron, who offered emotional and logistical support during her challenging law school years.

“You have been a reassuring and calming force throughout this journey,” she noted.

Reflecting on her academic journey, Hooblal revealed that as a teenager, she never envisioned herself becoming an attorney.

However, she described the study of law as a transformative experience. “The pursuit of law is rewarding. It has fundamentally impacted my life,” she said.

“I have gained new perspectives and developed a passion for justice.”

Hooblal’s experience working at the Ministry of Legal Affairs and during in-service training has shaped her understanding of the legal profession’s role in society.

She spoke of the critical need for legal assistance and the responsibility of attorneys to serve their clients competently and ethically.
