A 27-year-old was Thursday remanded to prison on the charge of robbery under arms committed on Mohamed Hussein, a 29-year-old Albion Estate operator and a resident of Kilcoy/Chesney Housing Scheme.

Kelvin Bates of New Market Street, Rose Hall Town was arrested on Monday and made his court appearance at the New Amsterdam Magistrates Court Thursday.

He was not required to plea and was remanded to prison.

According to the facts of the case, Hussein was making his way home from work on his motorcycle around 3:40 hrs when Bates and another individual rode up beside him and pushed him off of his motorcycle; he was just mere feet from his home.

Hussein detailed that, “I noticed the light behind me…then all of a sudden the motorcycle pull alongside me with two male on it and they ask me what going on and I said nothing…the one at the back of the motorcycle had on a full face helmet and he give me a shove and I fall off the motorcycle…”

He stated that when he fell, the men demanded from him the motorcycle’s key while pointing a gun at him. One of the men struck him with the gun on his head but luckily he was wearing his helmet and it caused no major injuries.

He was struck again with the gun. The men eventually robbed Hussein of his motorcycle, a cellphone worth $45,000 and $6,000.
