Police in Regional Division Seven are investigating an alleged attack involving corrosive fluid against 38-year-old Jermaine Thornhill, a driver from 1 ¾ Miles, Potaro Road, Bartica.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 hrs on Tuesday.

Authorities are currently seeking the alleged perpetrator, identified as Wayne Johnson.

Reports indicate that Thornhill was celebrating his birthday at home with the suspect and family members, where the group was consuming alcoholic beverages, including Guinness and brown rum.

During the festivities, a disagreement arose between Thornhill and his wife, prompting Johnson to intervene despite being asked to refrain from doing so. This prompted Thornhill to request Johnson to leave the premises.

Approximately five minutes later, Johnson returned to the scene. Witnesses report that he confronted Thornhill, saying, “Thornhill, look this acid,” before throwing a liquid from a container at him.

Thornhill managed to turn away, resulting in the corrosive fluid splashing onto his back and hands. Johnson then fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Thornhill experienced severe pain and was promptly assisted by his wife and family members, who transported him to the Bartica Regional Hospital.

Medical staff examined him, and he was subsequently admitted for treatment, where he remains in stable condition with burn injuries.

The investigation into this disturbing incident is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
