Authorities are probing the cause of a fire that broke out at Rockville Apartments on Third Avenue, Bartica around 1:30 hrs on Wednesday.

The blaze severely damaged Room #7 of the two-storey building, owned by the landlord Dexter Brian.

The affected room, approximately 12 feet by 20 feet, was home to 40-year-old artist Jarrinson Daniel Viloria Garcia and his partner, 29-year-old housewife Mayra Alejandra Narvaez Blanco.

At the time of the incident, Narvaez Blanco was preparing a meal downstairs when she was alerted by shouts of “fire.”

Emergency services were quick to respond, with a team led by Station Officer Johnson using Fire Tender #98 to bring the flames under control. Despite their efforts, the fire caused extensive damage to the occupants’ belongings, including a television, air conditioning unit, clothing, and a bed, with an estimated total loss of $700,000.

D/Inspector Henry, ASP Chaitram, CST Corporal Yearwood, and other officers were present at the scene to assess the situation. The building, unfortunately, was uninsured, and the exact cause of the fire remains unknown as the investigation continues.
