A 29-year-old single mother of four is reaching out for assistance to rebuild her life after a devastating fire five months ago left her and her children homeless and struggling to make ends meet.

Kimberly [only name given] shared her heartbreaking story with the News Room on Friday, recalling the traumatic experience of her baby boy suffering severe burns.

“It was a day like any normal day. I went to take out the goats because I had two goats, and then my second daughter came and called me, saying, ‘Mommy, fire,’” Kimberly recalled.

By the time she returned home, a bedroom in their house at Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara was already engulfed in flames with her baby boy asleep inside.

“I ran to my son and picked him up and I ran out of the house and asked my neighbor to take me straight to the hospital,” Kimberly said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Tragically, by the time the Fire Service arrived, everything she owned had already been lost.

“After I left, nobody really helped to put out the fire until the fire reel came, and by then, everything was already on the ground, everything I had was burnt,” she explained.

Her son suffered severe burns on his hand, left foot, chest, and belly, leading to a three-week hospitalization.

Her son suffered severe burns on his hand, left foot, chest, and belly, leading to a three-week hospitalization. Although he was discharged, Kimberly was advised that he would need surgery, but she hesitated, feeling he was too young and in too much pain.

Now that her son is one year old, she is seeking help for the necessary surgery at a private hospital to remove contracted skin that binds his arm to his chest.

“It would be really nice if I could get some help so that my kids and I could be home together again because right now we are separated. Two of my daughters are with my mother, and I have two with me, and we are living with relatives,” an emotional Kimberly shared.

Before the fire, Kimberly supported her family through small-scale poultry farming. She explained that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction. “Apparently, the transformer that I bought didn’t work to break down my current properly, and it exploded,” Kimberly told News Room.

While she has started rebuilding her home, she has run out of funds before making significant progress.

“I would be grateful to receive assistance to rebuild. I am not working, and I am relying on my family members. I already started my home, but I haven’t made much progress because I ran out of money,” Kimberly said.

If anyone is willing to support Kimberly, please reach out at 672 1016. Your help could make a world of difference for this family in need.
