The modern state-of-the-art new Enmore Regional Hospital on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), should be completed early next year and will employ about 1,000 staff including hundreds of medical professionals.
“We are looking at maybe about 30 (doctors), about 300 to 400 nurses and then another maybe 400 nursing assistants. Then you have clerical staff, technical staff,” Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony told President Ali on Monday.
In response, President Ali said, “This facility, it’s about a 1,000 people you will need to manage it”.
President Ali was provided with the update during a visit to the construction site on Monday.
Currently, works are moving apace on the new Enmore Regional Hospital, which is expected to transform health care delivery in Guyana.
The hospital is being built according to international standards and will feature modern, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including two operating theatres, modern digital imaging equipment, 75 beds for patients and an emergency unit.
“For every room, there are five beds…Each one of these rooms will have their toilet and bath as well as air conditioning units.
“We have a modern birthing room….and we have waiting area. We have two modern operating theatres,” Dr Anthony highlighted.
The project is being executed to the tune of $6.6 billion.
“It is not the open ward system anymore. It’s a modern system.
“Also we have all digital equipment,” President Ali said.
Dr. Ali also inspected works ongoing at the new Paediatric and Maternal Hospital at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
There, he was not satisfied with the progress. As such, he urged the contractors to work faster, so that the facility can be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
To do this, President Ali recommended that they implement a shift system and increase their work force.
