El Dorado Offshore, Noble Corporation, and the MatPal Marine Institute on Monday announced that applications are now open for the Noble Marine Cadet Scholarship Program.

This opportunity offers a full-ride four-year scholarship that culminates with employment in the offshore industry, once the successful applicants complete the program. The program further offers 18 months of classroom-based learning and 18 months of hands-on offshore experience. It provides comprehensive support, including stipends once cadets commence their offshore training.

The scholarship, valued at over US$100,000 for the 20 cadets annually, ensures participants are fully equipped with laptops and other resources throughout the four-year journey.

“And should you desire to work for Noble, a job is at the end of four years for you, so it is not just a full ride, [but] also employment,” Renatha Khan, Noble’s Local Content Manager revealed during remarks.

She highlighted the remarkable growth in the Guyanese workforce since Noble’s arrival in Guyana in 2017. Starting with 17 Guyanese on a single drill ship, the number has expanded to over 440 Guyanese nationals across four drill ships today.

However, Khan emphasised that applicants need a solid high school education or a technical certificate from a recognized Technical and Vocational Education institution to qualify for the scholarship.

Cadet Somersett, a current scholarship recipient, shared how the opportunity has turned his aspirations into reality despite financial challenges.

“This scholarship is going to take you to heights, to levels you could not have thought of before,” he said as he encouraged others to apply.

Managing Director of Cerulean Inc., Lyndell Danzie-Black, expressed her excitement about the programme, noting the vital role of such scholarships in fostering talent as Guyana’s offshore sector evolves.

“Through this collaboration, the scholarship opens doors for 20 promising cadets to enter the world of offshore exploration,” she said.

Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and at least 85% attendance throughout the programme to be successful. Application opens from November 4, 2024 to December 31, 2024.
