Paramdeo Victor, a 37-year-old resident of Rosignol, Berbice, was arrested Wednesday after faking a $10.25 million robbery.

Police Headquarters reported that the man went to the Mahaica Police Station and lied about being robbed of the $10 million sum by three masked men with guns.

Victor reportedly told Police that he was transporting the cash to Rosignol for a jeweller, after receiving it from a cambio in Georgetown. He claimed the gunmen forced him off of the road with another car and then robbed him.

“After being questioned by the CID ranks, it was suspected that Victor’s claims were fictitious, which led to further questioning.

“Victor later confessed that he had made a false report, and he actually staged the robbery to steal the money from the owner he was transporting it for,” Police said in a statement.

The man then took officers to his car, where he showed them where $2 million was stashed. He then told them the remaining sum was with his accomplice at Ithaca Village, West Bank Berbice.

At about 19:00 hrs Wednesday evening, Police ranks travelled with him to Ithaca, then back to his (Victor’s) residence at Rosignol and located $6 million cash in a black plastic bag stashed in a washing machine.

Police are looking for the alleged accomplice, Cornell Taylor, also known as ‘Rastaman,’ and the remaining cash.

    Investigations continue.
