Two men, John Gillette, 21, and Naresh Persaud, 20, were formally charged on Thursday, November 7, with Break-and-Enter and Larceny following an alleged burglary in Bartica.
The pair appeared before His Worship Mr. Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where they faced charges under Section 229(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Mohammed granted each accused bail in the amount of $100,000. The case has been adjourned to November 21, 2024, for further proceedings.
The charges stem from an incident on November 5, 2024, when it is alleged that the two men unlawfully entered the premises of a 62-year-old businessman residing on Fourth Avenue, Bartica, and stole items from the property.
As the investigation continues, police are expected to gather more evidence related to the break-in.
