Neil Miggins was recaptured on Saturday shortly after he escaped while receiving medical attention under Police guard at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Police Headquarters reported that Miggins, also known as ‘Scissors Head’, a 24-year-old resident of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara was in custody for several offences including armed robbery and rape.
Miggins who was ill, was taken to the hospital where he was admitted under Police guard as he receive medical attention.
At approximately 09:30 hrs, Police said Miggins requested to use the washroom and was allowed.
While doing so, Police said Miggins managed to remove one side of the handcuff and attacked the Police rank with a sharp metal object.
Despite the rank’s resistance, Miggins overpowered him and escaped using the stairs.
An alarm was immediately raised and other ranks were informed.
A search party was formed and Police said Miggins was recaptured a short distance from the hospital near the Shore Base facility at Best Village, West Coast Demerara.
He was taken to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station where he was placed in custody pending further investigation.
Miggins is slated to be charged in the new week.
