Demerara Cricket Club right-hander Nathan Bishop stroked a superb 140 to lead Georgetown to a commanding 292-run victory over the Select XI on the opening day of the Demerara Cricket Board’s Inter-Association Under-15, 50-over competition on Sunday.
Playing at the Queen’s College ground, Bishop struck 19 fours and one six off 106 balls to lead the city boys to a mammoth 372-6 from the allotted 50 overs.
It was Bishop’s third hundred at the Under-15 level.
Opener Khush Seegobin played well for 42 off 44 (7x4s, 1×6), Makai Dowlin made 36 off 45 (4x4s), Joshua Bollers scored 28 off 32 (1×4, 1×6), Wasim Ali 27* off 25 (2x4s) and opener Lomar Seecharran 25 off 30 (5x4s).
Bowling for the Select XI, who conceded 52 extras, Roscoe Anderson (1-17), Jasani Craig (1-39), Adam Mohamed (1-57) and Nathan Puran (1-96) were the wicket-takers.
Select XI, in reply, were dismissed for 80 in 35.4 overs with opener and skipper Shahid Ramzan scoring 25 off 56 (4x4s) and Puran the only other batter to reach double-figure with 12 off 57 (1×4). Extras were 26.
Bowling for Georgetown, leg-spinner Ali picked up 4-5 from 1.4 overs, captain Brandon Henry 3-9 off six and leg-spinner Reyaz Latiff 2-10 off six.
In the other first round game at the LBI ground, East Coast defeated East Bank by 152 runs, despite a fine all-round performance from Vinesh Kalpoo.

The competition, being used to select the Demerara team for the Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter-County tournament in the first quarter of 2025, will continue on Wednesday, November 20.
Georgetown will face East Bank at the Farm ground, and the Select XI will come up against West Demerara at the Queen’s College ground. Both matches will start at 09:00h.
The lads from East Coast have drawn the bye for this round.
