A dilapidated building located at the corners of Chappel and Norton Street in Georgetown is raising alarm among residents and property owners in the area.

The structure, which appears to be at the heart of a prolonged legal dispute, has been leaning precariously, posing an increasing risk to surrounding homes and businesses.

One concerned property owner, who recently invested in upgrading her building for commercial purposes, has expressed growing frustration over the situation, as the building continues to deteriorate without any resolution in sight.

Despite multiple appeals to the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, as well as engagements with persons associated to the property, no substantial action has been taken to address the dangerous state of the building.

In an exclusive interview with the News Room, the concerned property owner shared her escalating concerns.

The building’s condition is worsening, with large cracks appearing in nearby fences and the structure itself visibly leaning closer to neighboring properties.

The woman described how the building has been slowly shifting over the past few months.

“Two months ago, it wasn’t even this close to the fence, but now it’s pressing right against it,” she said.

Despite reporting the issue to the local authorities, the situation remains unresolved.

“We spoke to the City Hall, and they sent an engineer who said he passed the matter on to the higher-ups. But nothing’s been done, and the building keeps leaning further. It’s already cracked my fence,” she explained.

She went on to explain that she even offered to contribute financially towards demolishing the structure to avoid further damage to her property.

However, her proposal was dismissed, as the property owners and others involved in the matter have cited ongoing court proceedings.

“The building’s situation is complicated because it’s in court. The original transport has five names on it, and the person behind the matter is involved in the case,” she noted.

The situation is further complicated by the involvement of multiple parties, with rumors circulating about the legal status of the property.

Residents are left in a state of uncertainty, with some hoping that the building will be demolished soon, following claims from nearby shopkeeper who mentioned that demolition could take place as early as January.

However, given the ongoing legal complexities, many are skeptical about the timeline for any resolution.
