Ivory Coast slumped to the lowest-ever total in a men’s T20 international by putting up just seven runs against Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday.

The hosts set a target of 271 after Selim Salau hit 112 runs off 53 balls as Nigeria opened.

But Ivory Coast barely put up a reply as they lost by 264 runs at the Tafawa Balewa Oval, with six batters dismissed for ducks, while opener Ouattara Mohamed top-scored with four.

Mimi Alex, Maiga Ibrahim and Dje Claude all added single runs to the total.

The total is the lowest recorded in the men’s format, beating the previous record of 10 runs set by Mongolia earlier this year and the Isle of Man in 2023.

It is the first time a team has registered a single-digit total in a men’s T20I, while Nigeria’s winning margin is the third-largest ever recorded.

The defeat is Ivory Coast’s second in as many games in their World Cup qualifying group, having been bowled out for 21 to lose by 168 runs by Sierra Leone in their opening fixture.

The record for the lowest recorded total in T20I cricket is shared between Maldives’ women and Mali’s women, who both set totals of six runs in 2019. (BBC)
